Designing a super efficient family car that charges under the sun.
Granstudio used its expertise in performance design to design the Lightyear Zero, an ultra aerodynamic and sustainable family car that recharges under the sun through embedded solar panels.

from ideation to production
We understood that this project could only succeed through our holistic and user driven approach that defines user interests, packaging, styling, aerodynamics and feasibility in synergy with each other. The key challenge hereby was to develop an attractive car that sits a family of 5 with an energy efficiency that is unseen in this category so far, combine it with 5m² of solar panels on the car’s roof, create good proportions and make it feasible for initial low volume production.
Aerodynamics that
made hystory
The exterior design is a hyper aerodynamic shell (Cd value of 0.175!) with 5m² of solar cells, that visually transmits the harmony by which this sustainable car can move in nature. With this value Lightyear and Granstudio made history, resulting in the most aerodynamic passenger production car ever made.
Hyper light-weight,
vegan eco-friendly interiors
Sustainable design is stitched into every seam of Lightyear 0. The car’s high-quality interior is crafted from plant-based leather, recycled PET bottle fabrics and sustainably restructured rattan palm, breathing new life into a conscious collection of all-natural materials.

Solid,
integrated design
Strong graphics assist in balancing proportions and volumes, and convey a feeling of protection to the lower area of the car in line with Lightyear's 'Go Free' brand feeling. great effort have also been done on the integration of off-the-shelf components, to reduce investment costs, which is crucial for a low production serie.
Full engineering & CGI support
We developed the final surface data for the exterior and interior, integrating all the technical and legal requirements needed to produce the car. additionally, we supported the client on creation of CGI material for internal and external communication purposes
